A little bit of history
In the middle age, this place was a very old clerical hotel. It was used as head office by the provost ship of the Great Chapterhouse of the Cathedral.
The huge cellars have been built at that time. The canons were using them to warehouse their wines and we can trust them for their quality: according to the reporters, the Domherren were not averse to good food!
This splendid 13th century cellar welcomes up to 200 guests over 2 floors. It is the ideal place for group dinners, private events and receptions.

These cellars do have style! Spacious as a church nave, their size is exceptional for a city like Strasbourg. Digging near the cathedral was the only way to build such a deep cellar without risk of flooding.
In the 14th century, Conrad GURTLER bought and refurbished the hotel. He renamed it: Le “GURTLERHOFT”. Today, the restaurant Gurtlerhoft welcomes you in the heart of the old city. It is a warm and typical place where you can enjoy Alsatian specialities at any season of the year.
